SSE Ontario included among PwC’s Young People Project Grant Recipients

The School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario is thrilled to announce a new collaboration with PwC Canada. 

Welcoming this news on behalf of the SSE Community, Marjorie Brans, Co-Managing Director of the School said: “The friendship between PwC and SSE is long-standing and has been exceptionally frutiful. PwC has been a passionate supporter of SSE for more than a decade and its support of the social enterprise sector is unparalleled. We expect today’s celebration to be met with many more.”

PwC began collaborating with SSE in London, UK over a decade ago. Since then, the company has shared its expertise and resources to enable SSE to broaden its geographic reach in the UK, India, and Canada.

TORONTO, May 2, 2018:  Today the PwC Canada Foundation unveiled the seven Canadian charities who will receive a share of  $750,000 unrestricted charitable grants payable over three years. These charities focus on solving the issue of youth unemployment. Aligned with the firm’s Young People Project,  the funding is part of a coordinated strategy to harness the firm’s skills and capabilities, alongside governments, business, leading thinkers to help prepare at least 10,000 young people for the future of work.

“Our grant recipients have the highest potential and capacity to create scalable solutions that can impact the national youth unemployment rate,” said James Temple, PwC Canada’s Chief Corporate Responsibility Officer.

“Our goal is to help create an ecosystem that will showcase how organizations from across sectors and geographies can work together differently to address this important societal issue. We want to try new things, take calculated risks, and reimagine the possible through collaboration” –James Temple

 

The seven organizations selected after a thorough stakeholder engagement process are:

 

• Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada – $75,000 – We will support the charity’s national youth council and their youth leading reconciliation movement. Working with these young people across the country, we will learn from their insights and knowledge while helping them develop other leaders in various communities and Clubs across the country.

 

• Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary – $150,000 – Augmenting our support for the national entity, we will focus our work with Boys and Girls Clubs of  Calgary through their Building Youth Connections program which supports newcomer youth to become healthy, integrated and self-sufficient adults by equipping them to meet their personal, social, community, educational and employment goals.

 

• Eva’s Initiatives – $75,000 -We will empower leaders to work directly with youth experiencing homelessness in the GTA to help them develop personalized action plans to achieve their short and long-term goals. Eva’s award winning program models, results and innovations will be shared across the country.

 

• Outward Bound Canada – $150,000 – Our funding will be directed at Outward Bound Canada’s Underserved Youth Programming in BC Region, helping to connect young people from diverse cultural, social and economic backgrounds to transformational outdoor experiences that removes them from their everyday environment and thrusts them into a challenging and inspiring journey of self-discovery.

 

• Youth Assisting Youth – $75,000 – Our funding will focus on the One-to-One Youth Mentoring program for high risk and newcomer youth that addresses issues like youth mental health, crime, bullying, academic failure and more.  We will help match young people from the GTA with positive role models who are older youth peers. A by-youth, for-youth design project.

 

• Youth Fusion / Fusion Jeunesse – $150,000 – Based in Montreal, this award-winning francophone charity works with over 15,000 young people from 250 schools in rural, urban, and Indigenous communities each week.  We will support initiatives that help young people develop perseverance, employability and civic engagement through experiential learning activities.

 

• School for Social Entrepreneurs – $75,000- We will help the School for Social Entrepreneurs Ontario, a project of Tides Canada Initiatives, to expand the impact of the League of Intrapreneurs in Canada into the BC Region, Edmonton and Montreal.  They will provide young people with workshops in areas like ‘unlearning’ and ‘intrapreneurship as a movement for change’, events such as Rebels @ Work and train youth to be social change activists. We will empower our future difference makers.

 

PwC Canada will also be launching a PwC Youth Employment Index to help measure the project’s success, and will bring together a group of young people coined ‘The Activators’ to help provide continuous feedback on the collaborative effort.
