This is another installment from our series of articles in the CSI Facebook Takeover Week.
The School for Social Entrepreneurs – Ontario is nearing the end of our Centre for Social Innovation FB takeover and we’ve got one more amazing Social Entrepreneur Fellow to highlight. Her name is Ohemaa Boateng, and she is the founder of the fun, creative, and oh-so-necessary organization called Baby Steps Parenting. Learn more about Ohemaa in her own words:
“I hope to improve healthy parent-child relationships. With a background in Psychology, Early Childhood Education, and Criminology I decided to funnel information I felt privy to, from school, to parents in marginalized communities. I created Baby Steps Parenting(BSP) as a social door and entry point that provides opportunities to connect with your child by creating an everlasting bond through channels such as storytelling and activities.
“BSP is a youth-led parenting program that creatively empowers marginalized parents through various initiatives with the skills on how to take an active role in their child and family’s health development. We create a safe space for parents to come and share a great experience.
“BSP is an umbrella to programs like: ‘Turn the Page’, where mothers create their own book inspired by their children with the help of the BSP team; and ‘Baby Steps Fitness’ where families invest in their health and wellness by engaging in workshops and cardio classes together. Currently I work with and support incarcerated parents to help strengthen a healthy relationship with their child. I am excited to give parents the opportunity to take the baby steps needed to build positive relationships with their child!”
